My name is Basil Skaltsis and I am running to be your Councilman.
I made Chester Borough my family's home three years ago and have fallen in love with the Town. The Borough's historic charm is fabulous and known all over. The people are neighborly and we have made many close and dear friends. I have three children, two sons: one in West Morris Mendham High School one in Black River Middle School and my daughter is in Bragg.
My goal as your councilman is to ensure that the people of the Borough, our children and the investments in our houses are top priority whenever any decision for policy, planning, ordinance, operations or spending is brought before the council. With your Vote I can achieve my GOAL.
At the polls you will have two votes to cast for councilman I respectfully request that one of your votes be for me.
As we look to the future it would be my intention to address topics that are of concern to the people of the Borough. Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have; my answers will be honest and forthright.

Dear Neighbor
My name is Basil Skaltsis, and as you may know I am running to be your councilman in the upcoming election on Tuesday 11/04/2008. My name will appear as the Independent Candidate. I choose to run as an independent, for it is my belief that as a new member of the council and as a representative of the people of the Borough I should stand independently for you.
There has been some confusion and controversy lately, perhaps: "You may have heard there was a lot of controversy about the recently approved sidewalk project. Fundamentally, that controversy arose because the project was not well managed and a big surprise arose (the plan to cut down all the trees) when there should have been no surprises. I'll work hard to see that all such projects are better managed."
I would like to thank those who have contacted me via phone, e-mail, or through the web-site. I believe our conversations were informative. I appreciate hearing about your concerns and priorities, not borough issues I already know about.
I won't take my responsibilities lightly, won't make hasty decisions or flip flop and won't use the position to grand stand, criticize or complain.

A brief biography:
Born October-9-1963 at Margaret Hague Hospital in Jersey City New Jersey. I spent the first few years of my life in the Greenville section of Jersey City. We then moved to Union City NJ where I spent my formative years graduating Edison Grammar School in 1977 & Emerson High School in 1981. From there I attended Seton Hall University in South Orange earning a Bachelors of Science degree in Physics.
After College I work in the Research and Development dept. at Johnson & Johnson and Block Drug. I also took an opportunity to teach at my old High School.
After all that I went into the food business if you can’t tell by the name I’m Greek.
Owned and operated Basil’s Garden in Hoboken a Deli/ Diner eatery for fifteen years.
Currently and for the past four years I am a Realtor in Hoboken.
